As a Database Solutions Engineer, you’ll take a leading role in shaping the data infrastructure that powers the U.S. Geological Survey’s (USGS) vital environmental research and public service initiatives.

In this position, your deep expertise in database systems will help steer the development of modern, scalable solutions that support the flow and transformation of essential environmental datasets across cloud and hybrid environments. You’ll collaborate with a forward-thinking team to design intelligent data architectures, provide best-practice guidance, and help implement cutting-edge technologies that elevate national research capabilities. Your insights and contributions will help streamline data ingestion, transformation, and delivery—enabling smarter, more efficient systems that foster innovation and scientific progress.

** This position will be Hybrid (can telework but must be able to travel to Rolla office)

Salary: $76,000 - $82,000

Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, software engineering, or a related discipline
  • At least 4 years of relevant experience in the field or a related area
  • Experienced with writing efficient SQL, managing PostgreSQL databases, and handling large datasets to ensure accurate and fast data processing
  • Proficient in using Python to automate data workflows, making data management more efficient and seamless
  • Familiar with automating database provisioning and implementing version control using GitLab/Github to streamline continuous integration and delivery for faster, reliable deployment
  • Comfortable using AWS services like EC2, S3, and RDS to deploy, manage, and scale cloud applications and databases, ensuring reliability and performance in a cloud environment
  • AWS and ArcGIS certifications are preferred, demonstrating your expertise in cloud and geospatial technologies
