Step into a crucial role at the forefront of technological advancement in a vital national program. As a Desktop Support Specialist, you'll be instrumental in ensuring that desktop or laptop systems are secure, optimized, and functioning smoothly to support The National Map Elevation Program managed by the United States Geological Survey (USGS). This program provides high-resolution elevation data critical for everything from environmental management to infrastructure planning and disaster response across the United States.

In this role, you'll be at the heart of maintaining and optimizing critical IT systems, ensuring everything from software installations to hardware troubleshooting runs smoothly and efficiently. Your work will help keep systems secure and fully operational, directly contributing to the success of The National Map Elevation Program and its broad, impactful reach.

*This position is on-site, with some WFH allowed*


Salary range: $50,000 - $60,000

Job Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s with at least 2 years of relevant experience
    • Or 4 years of experience without a degree
  • Proficiency in managing, configuring, and troubleshooting Windows desktop systems, including OS, software, peripherals, and network connectivity for optimal performance and security.
  • Experience in setting up new desktops/laptops, installing necessary software and security patches, and preparing devices for end-users.
  • Ability to track inventory and update asset records, maintaining accurate system management.
  • Ability to set up and configure printers, ensuring correct driver installation and network connectivity to optimize printer functionality
  • Able to process systems for reuse or disposal, performing secure data removal in compliance with company policies.
  • Effective communication skills to provide top-tier customer service and support to users
Preferred but not Required:
  • Knowledge/experience using PowerShell to automate system configurations, streamline troubleshooting processes, and manage routine tasks efficiently.
  • Industry certifications, such as CompTIA A+, and other relevant credentials, that demonstrate expertise in desktop management, troubleshooting, and networking.
