Senior Data Scientist - Intelligence Support (TS/SCI)

Springfield, VA - Full Time

You’ve spent enough time working with data to know that a result can look right and still deserve a closer look. You trace it back, examine the assumptions, and work through the details until you understand what the evidence supports. The value you bring is in that judgement, and in helping others understand what you’ve found.

This is an exciting chance to join us as a Senior Data Scientist to support the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency’s (NGA) Maven program, supporting imagery acquisition, imagery curation, and data transformation within its model development process. Your work will help shape the data that models learn from. Before imagery can serve that purpose, it needs to be understood and prepared. Information from different sources must be brought together, inconsistencies investigated, and understanding of what could be lost or changed along the way. You’ll help make those decisions. Through programming, quantitative analysis, and visualization, you’ll turn complex information into usable data and findings that team can build on. In this role, you’ll bring together data science, software development, and analytic judgement to work through complex datasets. You’ll move across geospatial formats, JSON, XML, and other file types, using Python and quantitative methods to clean, transform, analyze, and interpret information. Your work will help establish the data foundation that model development depends on.  Your contribution will help the team move forward with a clearer understanding of its data and the limitations that need attention!

Requirements
  • Current active Top Secret / SCI clearance.
  • You have one of the following education and relevant experience combinations:
  • Associate degree + 8 years
  • Bachelor’s degree + 7 years
  • Master’s degree + 5 years
  • 10 or more years of relevant experience
  • You have experience working with AI/ML technologies and data systems to be able to connect your preparation and analysis decisions to the model development process.
  • You have experience with multiple file types, including geospatial formats, JSON, and XML to interpret different structures and transform them while preserving the information needed for their intended use.
  • Experience conducting quantitative analysis, developing visualizations, and processing complex data into insights in order to help the team recognize patterns, investigate concerns, and make informed decisions. Being able to explain how you reached a conclusion matters as much as identifying it.
  • Development experience in Python and other programming languages for data cleaning and manipulation to build repeatable processes, address inconsistencies, and make complex datasets more usable as needs evolve.

Nice to Have
  • Natural language processing algorithms to extract data from documents to make information within unstructured text available for analysis.
  • Experience with NGA’s analytic modernization efforts, experience with SOM, computer vision, automated collection, or automated reporting to help connect your work to analytic workflows it supports.
  • Experience with data standardization is the best practice to bring consistency to information from different sources so it can be interpreted, combined, and reused.
  • Expertise in mathematics, statistics, and quantitative analysis to evaluate assumptions, assess uncertainty, and determine what the evidence supports.
  • Experience with classification, regression, clustering, data reduction, and causal modeling to draw on different techniques to choose an approach suited to the problem and understand its limitations.

If you’re ready to bring your experience to work that helps shape what comes next for NGA’s Maven program, send your resume directly to Lanchi Lai, ([email protected]).

Voluntary Self-Identification of Disability
Voluntary Self-Identification of Disability Form CC-305
OMB Control Number 1250-0005
Expires 07/31/2029
Why are you being asked to complete this form?

We are a federal contractor or subcontractor. The law requires us to provide equal employment opportunity to qualified people with disabilities. We have a goal of having at least 7% of our workers as people with disabilities. The law says we must measure our progress towards this goal. To do this, we must ask applicants and employees if they have a disability or have ever had one. People can become disabled, so we need to ask this question at least every five years.

Completing this form is voluntary, and we hope that you will choose to do so. Your answer is confidential. No one who makes hiring decisions will see it. Your decision to complete the form and your answer will not harm you in any way. If you want to learn more about the law or this form, visit the U.S. Department of Labor’s Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs (OFCCP) website at www.dol.gov/ofccp.
