Advance Scalable Data Infrastructure for Environmental Impact
As a Database Engineer, you’ll play a pivotal role in building and maintaining the data systems that underpin the U.S. Geological Survey’s (USGS) critical environmental research and public service efforts.
In this role, your database expertise will contribute directly to the development of reliable, scalable frameworks that ensure the smooth movement and transformation of high-value environmental data across cloud and hybrid platforms. You’ll work alongside a collaborative, forward-thinking team to architect modern database solutions, guide best practices, and leverage new technologies that strengthen the nation’s scientific capabilities. Your work will directly support smarter data ingestion, transformation, and delivery; fueling innovation and enabling meaningful research at scale.

Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology
Or at least of 4 years of relevant experience accompanied by active IT certifications
Or at least 8 years of experience without a degree
Experienced with writing efficient SQL, managing PostgreSQL databases, and handling large datasets to ensure accurate and fast data processing
Proficient in using Python to automate data workflows, making data management more efficient and seamless
Familiar with automating database provisioning and implementing version control using GitLab/Github to streamline continuous integration and delivery for faster, reliable deployment
Comfortable using AWS services like EC2, S3, and RDS to deploy, manage, and scale cloud applications and databases, ensuring reliability and performance in a cloud environment
AWS and ArcGIS certifications are preferred, demonstrating your expertise in cloud and geospatial technologies
