As a Geospatial Systems Administrator supporting the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), you’ll help keep national geospatial platforms running—ensuring that ArcGIS systems are secure, responsive, and ready for action. You’ll support users, troubleshoot infrastructure, and contribute to a modern geospatial environment that fuels research, disaster response, land planning, and more.

REQUIREMENTS: 
 
  • Bachelor’s degree in GIS, Computer Science, IT, or a related field to support the administration of geospatial systems AND 2+ years of experience relevant to GIS system administration
  • Gained 2–4 years of hands-on experience managing enterprise GIS environments, ensuring system stability and performance for scientific and operational users.
  • Applied proficiency with ArcGIS 10.x (or higher), ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Server, and ArcGIS Enterprise to support installation, upgrades, and day-to-day administration.
  • Provided support for multi-user GIS systems by troubleshooting data layer access, performing routine maintenance, and managing platform upgrades across user groups.
  • Utilized scripting skills in Python or geoprocessing tools to automate tasks, assist with data transformations, and improve operational efficiency.
  • Adapted to hybrid work environments by supporting users both on-site and remotely, ensuring continuity of GIS services across physical and virtual infrastructure.
