Geospatial Developer

$68,000 – $70,000
At the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), geospatial applications do more than process data—they support decision-making that shapes infrastructure, guides emergency response, and protects our natural resources. The Geospatial Developer role offers the opportunity to write the code behind the maps that support national priorities, environmental initiatives, and public safety missions.
In this role, utilizing expertise in ArcGIS Pro, you’ll support one of USGS’s core geospatial development teams working on national mapping products that contribute to The National Map. You'll help develop and maintain Python-based systems that automate the creation and delivery of map data. These systems integrate both proprietary (ArcPy) and open-source (GDAL) geospatial libraries and are deployed through an Infrastructure as Code (IaC), CI/CD pipeline. You'll also contribute to front-end components using JavaScript to enhance accessibility and user interaction.
This position supports a mission-focused ecosystem where every line of code helps make our nation’s geographic data more usable, transparent, and impactful. The stack is modern, the mission is real, and the community is driven by collaboration, curiosity, and technical excellence.

• Proven understanding of spatial databases and geospatial data management principles
• Work history with CI/CD pipelines (e.g., GitLab CI, Jenkins, GitHub Actions) to support automated testing, deployment, and maintenance of GIS applications
